Constantin Moscovici, Pan Flute
Constantin Moscovici was born in the village of Carpineni, Republic of Moldova. The love and passion he has for music are based in his childhood and his close family circle. His father played the harmonica and supported the son's interest in music. At a very young age, his parents bought him his first musical instrument – the accordion, Constantin quickly learned how to play the instrument without even knowing how to read music. His father understood his talent and took him along to play at local weddings and village festivals to help the family earn money. When Constantin turned 13, a music school was opened in his village however he was already too old to be admitted to this school. Luckily, he met Vasile Brînzari, a wonderful musician who offered him an opportunity to be accepted to the music school if he learns to play the Nailu (traditional Moldovan pan flute), and the young musician happily accepted the offer.
After studying music for a few years Constantin met and played for Vasile Covali, the Dean of the Folk Instrument faculty at the "Gavriil Muzicescu" Institute of Arts. His playing was highly praised and he was offered admission to go to college at the Institute of the Arts. In 1984 Iurie Sadovnic invites him to join his band "Legend". Mr. Sadovnic wrote for Constantin his first composition for Nailu, It was called "The Traveler" – this composition was the first stone of the foundation to its own style.
From 1995-1997 Constantin returned to Moldova and became the soloist of the group "Fag", and since 1997 he is a soloist with the National Philharmonic of the Republic of Moldova. In 2005 he established the Music Festival "Songs of the World" in Comrat. In 2006 the festival moved to Chisinau.
He managed to fulfill his dream – to make the Moldavian nailu (pan flute) a well-known and loved instrument all over the world. Constantin performs Turkish, Macedonian, Russian, Belarusian and Azerbaijani musical pieces with his own special interpretation. During his musical career he had tours many countries around the world such as: Japan, Mozambique (1988), Romania (1990), Czechoslovakia, Germany, Poland, Hungary (1991), France, Germany, Egypt 1994), Greece, Turkey, Italy, Spain (1995), Monte Carlo (1998), Belarus 1999, 2000, United States of America (2001), among others.
